Question: I'd like my paystub given to me in a timely manner. What is the reasoning behind only a PIC being about to distribute them? Can't the administrative assistants take on this job?
Answer by Nancy Pavona, Administrative Services Manager: Paystubs are to be hand delivered to staff by someone other than the primary timekeeper for the particular payroll group.
This process reflects payroll best practices and was shared with us by the Finance/Payroll office during our audit last year. Since most of the Administrative Assistants are the primary timekeepers, someone else must distribute the paystubs. The paystubs should be given out to staff members on the paydate or on the earliest day thereafter that the staff member is present at the work location.
Plus, you can always look at your pay stub online in InSite Self-Service. That is really handy if you are not working on the day the paychecks are handed out since you can log in from home.
ReplyDeleteIt is a dumb way to do business. Just give out the pay stubs. They are sealed for goddess sake. Why does it matter who hands them to you. The time keepers are not the ones that print them. Only because someone says it is best practice doesn't mean that it makes any sense. Let's use our own heads and do what makes sense. They are sealed and they do not contain any information that isn't already public knowledge. They published everything about us and our pay except for out names in the Virginia Pilot anyway.
ReplyDeleteActually, there's a lot of information on the pay stub that is not public knowledge. How much I contribute to my deferred comp, United Way, insurance options, leave balances, etc. That being said, since the AA has access to at least some of that in Insite anyway, I'm not really sure what the big security issue is.
