Question: I would like to start a civil talk about the dress code. T-shirts are only acceptable that contain logos, endorsing programming or branding used by the Virginia Beach Public Library or the City of Virginia Beach, unless supervisor approval is obtained. As it is stated here, no logos may be on T-shirts but what about other shirts? And what is a logo? I was told today I could not wear my knit shirt because it has a two inch stitched cartoon on it. Does that mean I can not wear my button down shirts with any picture that can be named (cartoons)? And if so, why?
Answer by David Palmer, Public Services Manager: Logos that are on polo shirts, including cartoon characters, are generally acceptable unless the cartoon character is doing something that might be deemed objectionable.
That did not answer my question on is Eeore or any cartoon a logo or not. I think not Disney has only one logo not over 100.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else appalled that a grown men and women are complaining about not being able to wear cartoon characters, advertising t-shirts, etc.? When the budget is constantly under threat of being slashed and positions cut, you'd think we could all try to step up and create a good impression--the public are the people who fund us! Wearing childish clothing is undermining our effort to be taken seriously.
ReplyDeleteThe public may fund us, but we pay taxes too, so that opinion in invalid.
DeleteWe have a right in the say of what we wear.
You must not have ever worked in the business world. Your employer has the option to set a dress code that meets the needs of the organization. I think asking us not to wear cartoon characters and clothing advertising non-library goods and services is a pretty low bar to set.
DeleteI would like to know if I can tranfer to the location where someone's biggest on the job challenge is not being allowed to wear a shirt with a cartoon embroidered on it.
